LGBTQ+

LGBTQ+ is an acronym that stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning, with the plus sign (+) representing a range of other sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions that are not explicitly covered by these five terms.

The term encompasses a diverse spectrum of identities and experiences related to sexual orientation and gender identity. “Lesbian” refers to women who are attracted to other women; “Gay” typically describes men attracted to men, though it can also refer to women; “Bisexual” indicates individuals attracted to both men and women; “Transgender” includes people whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth; and “Queer” can serve as an umbrella term for non-heteronormative sexual orientations and gender identities.

The “+” signifies inclusivity for identities such as intersex, asexual, non-binary, genderqueer, and more, acknowledging that human experiences of gender and sexuality are complex and varied. The term is often used in discussions about rights, representation, and social justice for individuals and communities who identify within these categories.
